William James was an ingenious savant in some ways, with extraordinary pattern recognition and deductive reasoning skills, but he never felt like he fit in. He was called many things throughout his life; "Freak, loser, autistic, distant, impossible”.

People were never his thing. He spent his school years with limited friends. Not even the realm of dreams was a safe haven. Soon, the nightmares came, 74 nights of them. The same dream, each and every time. The same horrific vision of a girl being violently ripped asunder by a mysterious, unknown entity. Were they nightmares, though? They felt far too real.

Maybe his pattern recognition is the only thing that might be able to save him when things start going wrong.
